So Hot 10:00
So What All Brass = = = = It’s hot So hot So what = No bees High seas Few trees = No birds Are heard Just words = Miles - It is too hot Seas have started rising It’s not surprising Carbon levels rising Have melted the ice This is our vice We didn’t have to burn trees Soon the forests will vanish With animals banished
Without fruit there’ll Be sadness and for sure It will cause madness
Our blood returns to the sea Our bones return to the earth We think we own land We’re part of all land One with All life on the planet We owe The earth our care because We help Sustain one another Sunset feeds like supper We drink dawn like water Drinking with our eyes We watch the Water rise to skies Happy that It nourishes the land with rain A simple grain of sand In a whirl In an oyster Becomes a prized pearl How well the earth Regenerates itself A narrative for all Of life that lives here John - Hear the sounds that The trees make Listen to the ways fruits Leave their bitterness And find sweetness Hear how forests work together To keep each tree healthy Hear the trees Waiting patiently For the time to start growing The sound of trees can teach Us how their saplings find a way through the earth We’ve been solid rock for Years, now we should crumble And let new shoots through Hear the buds Grow out of a branch
Hear the leaves Face the light in early dawn These are the sounds of Life speaking gently to us Listen closely and you Will remember How to live lightly again Life’s journeys go Round in circles Always be ready for the new connections The sound of growth that spurs talent flowing through our nature Prompting poetry That embraces all life With deep affection The generous trees Mix their glucose And fresh water to light from the sun A blend that they convert To oxygen which they release Into the air on gentle breezes Giving life to us all Whether we are Rich or whether we are poor Reminding us of the value of sharing Our children know about This need to be generous to all life inhabiting the planet Cannonball - We lie around In the long summer grass Listening to feint echoes Of nature’s soft whispers Allowing time to slip by Graciously and imperceptibly We lift our ears To gentle sounds Coming from osmosis in redwoods or blossoms on fruit trees Rhythmic’ly vibrating and Creating new melodies That stimulate gracious swings in our orbit Like this life’s regenerated Skipping along Fresh as the Spring As leaves start to chatter And resonate through Sleepy, sleepy groves Speaking gently to us With rhythms That promise New life by playing Lightly on our grateful senses As gems of dew do As the rays of sun do We sing together Crafting a single voice And discover sounds of The dreams we dreamt In the moonlight Charming refrains that Splashed their way upon The distant waves Of the dark blue sea Flurries of notes And heartfelt vibrations Inspiring us and Opening us To the light Like - spring buds When giving birth to leaves Our job is to hear how nature fills its heart – knowing that all life on the Earth Contributes to its harmony So open up and breathe In sounds that trees Release like a gentle breeze And make this your melody or All Brass Stay hot Too hot So what Here’s what No bees Disease Few trees High seas Too hot Real hot So what Here’s what No birds Are heard Just words Absurd = = = = It’s hot It’s not So what = No bees High seas Some trees = It’s hot Too hot So what =

You can’t own the entire planet How come you don’t know this You don’t deserve all the reserves Wake up Freddie Freeloader Miles - Oh Freddie Freddie Freeloader You don’t need to own things All in nature is free You’ve no empathy Or sense that we Can flourish each day Just by dancing On this life-giving sphere We are thanking this Magic stage set That keeps us alive So, think about how you might Partner those with - nothing Who help life survive Who listen without needing To produce profits As you’re bound to do Stop poisoning our food So you can fill up your vast Bank accounts Costing us the planet
Listen Fred The love that we show Has life giving rhythms That are tuned to the planets Take this Newfound energy It can sooth you Free by birth right But Freddie Freeloader Can you tell us what You can give us in return Can you delight us Can you swing with the stars Or flow towards us like The graceful waves that roll in Out of the blue From the world’s Azure sea To wash you and to wash me Solo words - You attack us And imprison us Yet you pay no taxes You’re free to criticise And you tell us cruel lies Blinded by the fantasies Reverberating In your empty head You create smokescreens Called media campaigns So you can blame people And not know self-reflection Or have any idea what your Redemption might be Or even know that you Could easily spring out Of this ravaged condition And begin to find the Faultless love you often Heard about and longed for Before you started living apart From your sad defeated heart And with a shady head full Of implausible desires You began hurling yourself Against our delicate dreams Like a giant tsunami Eager to break us Your greedy eyes hunting In the rubble for profit Without any kind of clue That enchantment Might be a quality That could belong to you Without any sight of kindness Just strife without the relief of Celebrating life Without knowing how To blend with the angels Because your heart isn’t In it as you are too busy Enforcing yourself To remain in a synthetic World of murky coldness A quality you invented for Your permanent condition To give you an excuse to Return often to this place Where life strolls you along And puts you to sleep Far away from yourself All Brass You can’t own the entire planet How come you don’t know this You don’t deserve all the reserves Wake up Freddie Freeloader

Greens are blue Nature is now sleeping Due to the sweeping And constant overheating Our restraint it is like A painter With a full brush of paint Unable to Apply paint or go We’ve hesitated We were too slow We’ve been sedated Bill Evans (Silent) John Coltrane Lies do not help Deceiving ourselves is Destroying wildlife So needlessly Diversity must be Practised - it’s crucial For nature’s well-being We disrupt her strategies Her graceful play On the daft whim That meadows are a bed For us to fall asleep in Miles - We gaze At branches pledging our Cheerfulness Thinking trees grow more lovely Each day Thinking that scenes and vistas have Some intrinsic worth Thinking that visual Beauty is something sacrosanct when life itself is in danger Nature can’t save us from the Catastrophe that’s our making That is our fault

All in Blues 09:18
Please don’t -cover - your ears as soon - as you - hear things you dislike Don’t make-children- lie down and deal - with your -mistakes give them light With love-the shoots-of plants leave roots-and grow- up to the sunlight We can’t - obscure- them like clouds that - cover - the moon in the night Let them-have truth-let them have wild - life as - a right as delight Let your - hearing - attend to their - songs and - all that they excite Don’t make-children- lie down and deal - with your -mistakes give them light A song - from girls - and boys sitting - in trees - playing upon their pipes Hidden - by leaves -rarely noticed - their tunes – celebrating life They might - remind - us to prize the -bees and - not mine gold to prize They can - mimic - the sounds of water when - it’s no where in sight They can - mimic -flowers growing - insects - walking birds in flight Adults - suspect - these tunes and songs - have the - skill to hypnotize Will they-turn our - dreams of power - and wealth - into real blue skies Will they - stop us - making profits - from the - lands that support life Will they - show us- the love we need - and help – all life here survive

Flamenco Sketches Miles - My life Was dancing flamenco Now I’m fleeing wars Wars over food I’m - lost in - the hills Waiting without Complaints for Spring There’s hope If shoots can grow Upon an orange tree A small hope Many fruit trees have Disappeared from the land I’ve painted plum flowers But now I long to know Once again The taste of the plum Our constant winds Dry out the rare drops of rain John - The weather now dominates Our sad fate Spring passes quickly We do not see growth Or colours change I remember those Days when I watched fruit blush After greens got thin And reds became flushed I loved how - twigs worked - Their magic by Making the buds And blossom grow We have now learned To live without voicing Disappointment Without the songs in our heart Blaming our carelessness I honoured life when I danced Flamenco These days I soak Dried nettles to taste Something as lively as tea But dancing feet - they dance On the earth - no more Caressing an ancient tree Lifts the spirits Plum flowers and Blossoms from Apple trees - these I caressed While painting I can recall The scent of hyacinth The long thin hazel catkins And cherry blossoms Highly scented Blowing gently Around the courtyard But now We never see twigs Bearing the weight Of heavy pears I - long – for sight of Swallows returning To hear the cry Of wild geese flying overhead Remember, remember Your memories Even This rusty old hairpin Gently reminds me Of the harp Played by my sister I can over romanticise The ones Who have gone missing I see them – from far off Walking towards me Sauntering Each vista I over anticipate Just as excited lovers Play hide and seek Then a wind moves The clouds on Rearranging my hair And changing my thoughts As I drift slowly to sleep Miles - My soul wants - to Return home So I start to walk I want to honour the promise Of my liberty I breathe in this sweet thought Just like a child And then forget Which way It’s not a walk to freedom I am lost But I’ve never known a home Like a bird my heart Desires to land On every branch There was a time When I danced

about

Peter dear,

thanks for being hosted in my musical thinking.
Is this musical world free and alive as we want humans to be?

You taught me there's so much more, always and beyond,
no matter if we only clumsily feel and sing a glimpse of that totality.

Vocalese in Jazz tradition is where a songwriter lyricises non-vocal jazz by finding syllables and vowel sounds that accord with the pitch and tone of the instruments. The complex sound/words follow the melodies and rhythms of the instrumentals and finally become songs. In this manner, I lyricised the album Kind of Blue by Miles Davis. Lorenzo then took the sounds that my lyrics made and converted them back to instrumentation. Here the two forms are played together.

What Lorenzo did is significant, because it is the first time anyone brought the process full circle.
